An artist’s artist not only is Gail’s Higginbotham subject matter broad, she can tackle the infinite details of realism with ease. Her bold sense of composition is evident in her abstract and semi abstract paintings that conjure strong emotions. Gail explores vibrancy and texture through her paintings, in her personal interpretations of the colorful world around her.
She studied art at Maryland Institute College of Art in the 70’s. After her son had grown, Gail enrolled in various art classes at the local Community College, in addition, studied with Annapolis area fine artists. She lives with her husband in Annapolis along the waterfront during the summer. They travel in their trawler, Friendship, during the winter to Stuart, Florida. Life on the water has an influence in her oil pastel and acrylic paintings.
Presently, she is involved in a project Faces not Numbers painting portraits of Covid 19 victims. The finished portraits are donated to the families who lost loved ones to Covid. If you know of a family affected by a death due to Covid, please contact Gail. These portraits bring a humane aspect to the staggering number of lives lost from this virus.
